Is HomelyCraft Legit? How to Check a Small Studio Before You Order

It is a sensible question, and nobody at this studio is offended by it. You have found a shop you had not heard of yesterday, it wants your money and your partner's name, and it says it will post a wooden box from Lancashire. Checking first is the right instinct.

So rather than a page of reassuring adjectives, here is everything about HomelyCraft that you can verify without taking our word for it - followed by the checks worth running on any small handmade studio, including this one.

What you can check about HomelyCraft right now

• A real address. The studio is at 231 Garstang Rd E, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire FY6 7SY, United Kingdom. It is on the contact page, in the footer of every page, and in this site's structured data.
• One website, one email. We sell only from homelycraft.online and reply only from hello@homelycraft.online.
• Policies written in plain English. Shipping, returns, customization, privacy and terms - including the parts that are not in our favour.
• Prices in writing, before you commit. Every piece shows its price, what is included, and what personalization it takes.
• No automatic charge on this website. You send your gift bag to the studio, we reply with the layout preview, the delivery cost and payment options. Nothing is taken until that is agreed.
• An empty reviews page. Ours says so plainly, because the studio is new and we have not written any for ourselves.
• Declared photography. Every product page says the image is a stock photograph while our own pieces are shot, and the image credits page lists each one with its licence.

That last pair is the bit most shops would hide. We would rather you saw an empty reviews page and an honest caption than a wall of five-star quotes that appeared the week the site launched.

Eight checks worth running on any small studio

Use these on us, and on the next handmade shop you find. They take about five minutes in total and they catch almost everything.

1. Look for a postal address, not just a contact form. A real maker has somewhere the work happens. No address anywhere on the site is the single biggest warning sign.
2. Email them before ordering. Ask something specific - a deadline, a spelling, a size. A real studio answers as a person, usually within a working day. Silence, or a reply that dodges the question, tells you what you need to know.
3. Read the returns policy before the product page. It should say what happens when something goes wrong, not just when everything is fine. Personalized work is normally non-returnable for change of mind; a shop claiming free returns on engraved items either has not thought about it or is not making them.
4. Check whether the photographs are declared. Stock photography is common and fine. Passing stock photography off as your own handmade work is not. If the images look like a catalogue and the site claims they are its own pieces, be sceptical.
5. Be suspicious of perfect reviews. A brand-new shop with two hundred five-star reviews and no critical ones did not earn them. Real review sets are lumpy: mostly good, a few complaints about delivery, the occasional person who wanted something different.
6. Watch for pressure. Countdown timers, “only 2 left” on a made-to-order item, and “17 people are viewing this” are software features, not facts. Handmade studios do not run out of stock of something that does not exist yet.
7. Check how you are being asked to pay. Bank transfer to a personal account, cryptocurrency, or a payment link from a messaging app are all worth stopping for. Card and mainstream payment services give you a route back if something goes wrong.
8. Ask what happens before anything is cut. Any studio that engraves names should show you a layout for approval. If nobody can tell you what the proofing step is, there probably is not one.

Why our reviews page is empty, and what will fill it

HomelyCraft is a new studio. Buying reviews would be quick and it is what a certain kind of shop does in its first month. We are not doing it, for a simple reason: a brand that starts with invented reviews has to keep inventing them.

When reviews appear on that page they will come from real orders, be published with the customer's permission, and include the critical ones. Until there are enough genuine ones to mean something, there will be no star ratings on this site and none in search results either. If you see a five-star rating attached to the HomelyCraft name somewhere else, it did not come from us.

The name, and where else you might see it

“HomelyCraft” is not an unusual construction, and small-shop names get reused, mistyped and occasionally borrowed. If you have come across the name on a marketplace listing, a directory, a review aggregator or a social account, it is not connected to this studio unless it links back to homelycraft.online.

We are not going to speculate about who is behind anything else using the name. What we can tell you is what is ours: this website, this email address, and the address in Poulton-le-Fylde. Anything else is not us, and if you are unsure, just ask - a person reads that inbox.

What to do if a shop has taken your money

This is worth knowing regardless of who you were buying from.

• Contact the seller once, in writing, and keep the reply - or the silence.
• If you paid by card, ask your bank about a chargeback. In the UK, purchases over £100 paid by credit card also carry Section 75 protection.
• If you paid through a payment service, open a dispute in that service rather than by email.
• In the UK, report it to Action Fraud. In the US, report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Reporting is what gets repeat offenders removed.
• Leave a factual review saying what actually happened. Specific, dated, verifiable complaints are far more useful to the next person than angry ones.

Not adjectives. The layout preview that arrives before anything is cut, the honest answer when a deadline cannot be met, the box that turns up packed properly, and the way a problem gets handled when there is one.
