Why engraving, not printing
Printed personalization sits on the surface: it scratches, fades and eventually lifts. Engraving removes material, so the name is part of the object for as long as the object exists. On oak and walnut it also catches the light differently as the wood ages.
Oak, walnut or espresso
Oak is pale, open-grained and reads informal. Walnut is darker, tighter and reads formal. Dark espresso is walnut finished deeper, and is what most people choose for gifts for men. Grain varies piece to piece - that is a property of real wood, not a defect.

How deep is the engraving?
Deep enough to feel with a fingertip and to survive normal handling - typically under a millimetre on small text and deeper on large numerals.
How do I look after an engraved wooden piece?
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, and wipe it with a dry cloth. Boards that are used for food should be re-oiled every few months; we include a care card.
Is the wood sustainably sourced?
We buy from UK timber merchants in small quantities and use offcuts for the smaller pieces. We are a small studio, so we can tell you where a batch came from if you ask.
